About the Library

The Waidner-Spahr Library has over 510,000 bound volumes and 1,600 periodical subscriptions. The library also offers thousands of digital journals and databases, as well as music and video recordings, and government documents.

Spahr Library was contructed in 1967 with a gift from Boyd Lee Spahr, class of 1900 and President of the Board of Trustees. On October 12, 1967, members of the Dickinson community participated in a book walk, which moved the entire library collection from Bosler Hall into the new Spahr Library. In 1997, renovations to the Spahr Library began in conjunction with the building of a new addition, made possible by a donation from Robert A. Waidner, class of 1932 and member of the Board of Trustees. The new extension doubled the amount of space available in the Spahr wing, and allowed the College to house all of its books, collections, and holdings under one roof. The expanded library now also contains computer labs, classrooms, and individual study rooms.
