Job Descriptions - LIS Student Assistants
Category A wage ($7.15-$7.65)
Acquisitions/Periodicals: responsible for purchasing books and other materials for the library on-line. responsible for ordering and receiving periodicals, newspapers and microforms. Work includes the opening, sorting, checking in, shelving the collection. Other duties may include searching Catalyst, filing, photocopying, un-boxing book shipments, helping with sending materials to, and receiving them from the bindery.. Must be competent with computer use. (weekdays 8am-4pm)
Archives/Special Collections: responsible for processing college records & personal papers. Provide reference service to Archive patrons. Tasks include transcribing and proofreading documents, organizing papers and photographs and performing original research. Attention to detail required. (weekdays 8am-4pm & Wednesday 6pm-9pm)
HUB Microroom Consultant: responsible for providing assistance to microroom users. Expected to have an intermediate working knowledge of common computer applications and tasks supported in microrooms. Familiarity with both Mac and Windows operating systems. Requires mandatory training attendance and monthly meeting attendance. (days, evenings & weekends)
Desk Attendant - Circulation: responsible for checking items in and out of the library, provide other services to patrons by using the library software. Provide information regarding library policies. Manage various collections within the circulation area. Requires a student assistant who pays great attention to detail and exhibits exceptional customer service skills. (days, evenings & weekends)
Desk Attendant - Information Commons: serves as computer consultant and service desk assistant. Provide basic library services to patrons using library management software Expected to have an intermediate working knowledge of common computer applications and tasks supported in the infocommons. Familiarity with both Mac and Windows operating systems. Requires troubleshooting of equipment. Requires mandatory training attendance. (days, evenings & weekends)
Interlibrary Loan: responsible for processing incoming and outgoing items using interlibrary loan management programs. tasks include searching Catalyst, getting items from the shelves, scanning, data entry, photocopying, and preparing items for shipment. (weekdays 8am-8pm)
Shelving: responsible for returning circulated books to the stacks. Student employees must pay great attention to detail and be self-motivated. Employees work independently and set their own schedules in consultation with access services department. (days, evenings & weekends)
Storage: responsible for searching,
shelving and maintaining items the library has in its storage
warehouse. Must receive driver's certification through DPS.
Other duties include record keeping and contacting patrons.

Category B wage ($7.40-$7.90)
Bosler Digital Service Assistant: responsibilities include scanning for Can8, Deila, ICON and/orPDF. Provide assistance to patrons using scanners, software and equipment in the Bosler building. Convert foreign language workbook exercises to other media and proof read. Manage and circulate equipment. Perform dry mounting and trimming. Set up classrooms and other areas using equipment. Other technical duties as assigned. Knowledge and moderate skill level in the software programs supported in Bosler and strong technical skills required. Must have excellent decision making and problem solving skills. (days, evenings & weekends)
Events/Exhibit Assistant: responsible for assisting with special events including set-up and promotion. qualifications: artistic design experience in graphic publication. Familiarity using Dreamweaver, photoshop, and other graphic design software required. (flexible)
Helpdesk: responsible for answering calls and providing assistance to users. Expected to document all details of the problem or request and troubleshoot to the best of their ability or log problem into tracking software and refer to a User Services liaison. Must have a pleasant phone etiquette at all times. Knowledge and proficiency with common computer applications and tasks supported on campus a must. Experience with both Mac and Windows operating systems. (weekdays 8am-8pm)(weekdays 8am-8pm)
Research Services Assistant: responsible for providing support to liaison librarians and associate director for research and instructional services: assists in weeding reference collection, provides informational assistance at reference desk when assigned, updates reference pages on Library website, formats book lists for acquisitions decisions, searches book lists, prepares materials used by librarians in library instruction, assists with library events and publicity,etc. Works with different librarians; must have web skills, pay attention to detail, and be able to work independently.(flexible)
Category C wage ($7.65-$8.15)
Head Consultant: assists with management of the microroom including scheduling consultants, conducting monthly meetings, monitoring supplies. Knowledge and proficiency in the software programs supported in the microrooms. Strong technical skills, excellent decision making and problem solving skills a must. Minimum qualifications: 1 year experience as a HUB Microroom Consultant. (flexible)
Digital Scholarship Assistant: assists with projects related to digital scholarship. Expected to be service oriented and willing to take on different projects. Some projects may include: developing new media content for DiSC sponsored projects, creating and developing documentation for new media equipment, hardware, and software in the DiSC. Developing workshops and documentation for training in new media software. Assisting patrons with digital technology projects.
Minimum qualifications: High level of previous work experience or knowledge is required. Knowledge and proficiency in the software programs supported in the DiSC and strong technical skills, excellent decision making and problem solving skills. (days, evenings & weekends)
Category D wage ($7.90-$8.40)
Library Supervisor: responsibilities include: training and monthly meeting attendance, supervise student coverage of desks, provide reference services to patrons, conduct opening and closing procedures of library, oversee the general operation and security of the library. Minimum qualifications: 1 year experience as a Waidner-Spahr Library employee, detailed knowledge of the Waidner-Spahr Library building, software programs supported in the library and other services, excellent decision making and problem solving skills. required to work night and weekend hours. also required to stay on campus during fall pause and through the last day of final exams during each semester. (days, evenings & weekends)
ResNet Support Annex Tech (RSA): exptectations include: run virus scan on Mac and Window platforms, clean specific viruses, install antivirus software, verify computer is virus-free and report to LIS. Perform more in-depth network troubleshooting and diagnostics such as: ethernet card driver uninstall/reinstall, ethernet card physical installation, determine browser hijack or redirect software, scumware or spyware, removal of such scumware or spyware. Keep RSA software up-to-date in terms of security patches, anti-spyware program definitions, virus definitions. Regular meeting attendance required. Must be able to communicate to user what is being or has been done to the user’s computer. Must maintain accurate logs. Minimum qualification: Blitz RCCs experience or equivalent (flexible)
